Finally, our class is underway. We have been investigating the original meaning of the word GENIUS. We have found the Latin and Greek root - gen - means to beget, to begin, to give birth to. Also, the same root is used for jovial or joyful - as in the word GENIAL.
So, for 2012-13 we put the two together and created our own class definition of GENIUS, which is: To Give Birth to Joyful Learning. That's our Mission!
Ancient Romans believed a GENIUS was a guiding spirit that was born with you. One who had a great guiding spirit was a great genius. That inborn genius was celebrated each year on your birthday! So, everyone was expected to have a UNIQUE kind of GENIUS. That would make us all geniuses in different ways. Today, research has shared that we all have many kinds of INTELLIGENCES. So those Ancient Romans were really on to something!
Feel free to join our journey as we engage in Joyful Learning!
Carpe Diem!
